A reflection on what two cohorts of Her Future Series have revealed about financial confidence – and how it's built, not something women arrive with.
When we first launched Her Future Series, we assumed most participants would already feel confident about money. After all, they were already investing, already holding capital, and already choosing to join a paid programme. We thought they’d be here to optimise further and find out what’s next for them.
Two cohorts in, that assumption has been proven wrong. Financial confidence isn't something most women arrive with, regardless of how much capital they hold or how capable they seem elsewhere in their lives. It's something built. And building it is, in many ways, the real work of Her Future Series.
What Is Her Future Series?
Her Future Series is the expert-led programme from GJWHF$ created for women ready to move from good intentions to real, structured action with their money. Small cohorts work through mindset, risk and strategy across three sessions, supported by practical tools and a group of women doing the same work at the same time, together.
A Quick Recap of Cohort 2
Our second cohort moved through these sessions this spring and early summer:
Reframe Your Money Mindset
Build Your Financial Resilience
Decode Your Asset Playbook
We also brought Cohort 1 alumni into the room for a support workshop so that this cohort could learn directly from women just a few months ahead of them on the same path - the first small step towards a much larger alumni community!
The Real Starting Point
In the very first session, before any strategy was discussed, we asked participants a simple question: what's one thing limiting belief you're ready to let go?
The single most common word wasn't about ambition or status. It was fear followed closely by scarcity and not trusting oneself.
When we asked what they wanted to feel instead, the answers were just as telling: brave enough to try. Trust myself. I can do it. Time to start.
“I am that cash line. And realising that not only am I not growing my wealth, I'm losing half of it - that's the great wake-up call." - Cohort member
These weren't women lacking in intelligence, capital or opportunity - many were already senior in their careers and already investing. The same self-doubt showed up anyway. Financial confidence isn't something you automatically earn by becoming successful or wealthy enough. It's a gap many women carry, no matter how capable they are everywhere else.
Finding What It Was Really For
Session 1 asked participants to move past abstract numbers like "$X million by retirement" and define what that life actually looks like. For many, the goal wasn't really about more money. It was the ability to make their own choices or to take care of family without worry, with money as the means to that rather than the goal itself.
That clarity came from these open, honest conversations, and it's where confidence starts: with clarity on what you're building towards. The rest of the programme built the tools to get there.

Built, Not Born With
By the final session, the framing had shifted from what participants lacked to what they already had. Our co-founder and Board Chair, Sandra Wu, closed the programme with a simple principle: doing well with money has a little to do with how smart you are, and a lot to do with how you behave and what you do with the hand you've been dealt.
A repeatable, disciplined process - not one single brilliant call - is what compounds over time.
That reframe really matters because it means confidence isn't the entry requirement to build wealth. It's the by-product of showing up, session after session, decision after decision.

What Confidence Makes Possible
We saw where that can lead when Cohort 1 reconvened for their six-month accountability check-in. Many members had moved from idle cash or unstructured investing into diversified, intentional portfolios. Several opened brokerage accounts for the first time. A number started monthly investing habits using dollar-cost averaging. Several had their first real money conversation with partners or family, and a few are now bringing their own children into the conversation.
As one member of that cohort put it, back at the very start of her own journey: " I realised that money mindset is about more than numbers, and that my childhood upbringing shaped how I relate to money... something I now feel ready to break out of. "
Passing It Forward
And once built, confidence tends to move outward and expand. Cohort 1 members chose to sponsor a place in our programming for a foreign domestic worker in our community. This was very exciting because it reflects a wider commitment GJWHF$ is building: extending financial confidence beyond our existing membership.
What’s Next For Her Future Series
Cohort 2 will reconvene for their own six-month accountability session later this year. In the meantime, if Her Future Series is something you've been considering - even if you're not sure you're "ready" - we'd love to hear from you!
